Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching and marks the end of shoulder season and kicks summer into high gear. It’s the beginning of river rafting, dock lounging, mountain biking and warm summer nights listening to live music.
We’ve put together this list of a few not-to-miss events happening at the end of May. If you find yourself knee-deep in your home improvement project, come back to this list and look for us at these local’s favorites events.
Truckee Historic Walking Tour | May 24
Truckee’s turbulent past includes gunslingers, breweries, brothels, ice harvesting, opium dens, and much more. Learn more about the exciting and dangerous past at Historic Downtown Truckee. This walking tour will leave you with more knowledge about Truckee’s architecture, stories, and beginnings. Learn more about this free event here.
Little Big Mountain Bike and Skills Clinic | May 25 + 26
Summer in Lake Tahoe and Truckee isn’t complete without a fun session on a mountain bike. Learn and get inspired at this event for riders of all levels and ages at the Truckee Bike Park. Everyone is invited to hone their skills with various clinics, including women’s and kids’ clinics. Watch races, get dirty, and meet other mountain biking enthusiasts at this community event.
Outdoor Gear Sample Sale | May 25
Tahoe Mountain Sports, next to Safeway, holds this amazing parking lot event every year. It’s one of the best places to get brand name items from brand reps, including backpacks, running shoes, hiking shoes, camping gear, skis, ski boots, helmets, bike racks, sunglasses, performance clothing, and much more! Get your winter stock ready for next season or gear up for this summer’s outdoor adventures at this amazing sale!
Made in Tahoe Festival | May 25-26
This 3-day event is a local’s favorite as it celebrates all things local! Visit local artisans, businesses and chefs at their booths strewn all over the village at Squaw Valley. Take a break from shopping to dance to Truckee and Tahoe’s favorite local bands with live music happening throughout the weekend on various stages. Grab a drink, mix and mingle with your friends, and pick up some new local swag – all Made in Tahoe.
Truckee Tuesday Farmers Market | Every Tuesday!
Where the locals get their produce in the summer! Farms from around the Lake Tahoe and Reno areas put up their tents every Tuesday beginning May 14 from 8:00 in the morning until 1:00 in the afternoon. Pick up fresh peaches, herbs, blueberries, onions, and so much more and stock up your kitchen. Grab a bouquet of fresh flowers or pick up a new plant (they have huge household benefits – read more here). You’ll also find honey, fresh bread and textiles at this farmers market located at Truckee Regional Park.
Craw Thaw Music Festival | May 31-June 2
Celebrate the “spring thaw” at this free music event that takes over the streets of downtown Truckee. Inspired by the food and sounds of New Orleans the whole family will enjoy rockin’ bands, great food, and drinks. Purchases benefit the Moody’s Bistro Bar and Beats Jazz Camp, so mark your calendars and gather the family for the second ever Craw Thaw!
